Holiday Ideas in 2021

Hey friends! Last night the girls and I from Chit Chat Chic were sharing a few fun holiday ideas. We promised to include them all in today’s post! I’m linking the other girls at the bottom of this post, so make sure you pop over to their post to check out their ideas too!

If you aren’t familiar with Chit Chat Chic, it is a weekly live 30 to 60 minute chat with a few of my favorite gal pals. All of us are in our 50’s and doing life together. Each week we talk about various topics relating to midlife women. We tackle subjects like fashion trends, beauty, skincare, home decor, and life struggles! I hope that you can join us each week at 7pm CST over on Instagram. If you’d like more information about this or where to find us on Instagram, please reach out to me via email, and I’d be happy to assist you!

Last night’s topic was a little bit widespread. We talked about Christmas appetizers, cookies, festive lip colors, and what to wear for the holidays. So, I wanted to make sure you have all the resources so you could try these ideas out for yourself!

Holiday Ideas: Christmas Appetizers

My absolute favorite appetizer is this recipe for The Best Spinach Dip. It is super simple and delicious. I love to serve mine in a bread bowl, with pita chips, homemade tortilla chips, fresh veggies or sourdough bread pieces.

Another new favorite appetizer is the popular charcuterie board. I love this option because you can tailor it to the season, holiday, or theme. Trader Joe’s, World Market, Target, or your local grocery store generally will carry some fun treats to decorate the board with. The typical charcuterie board consists of meats and cheeses, but don’t be confined to that!

Holiday Ideas: Christmas Cookies

My absolute favorite holiday cookie is the classic cut out sugar cookie with royal icing. Nothing says Christmas to me like this cookie to me. In college my roommates and I would get together make these cookies! It was so much fun seeing who had the best decorating skills. In the end, it really only mattered that they tasted delicious!

A funny story. My mom gave me a recipe book when I was in college, and that was where I got the sugar cookie recipe from that we used during the holidays. Fast forward years later, and I was married with two kids, and planning some meals using the same recipe book. Well, I had taken the book to work with me, and at the end of the day had a lot of papers and items to take out to the car, so I simply put them all in a cardboard box and set them by the door of my office. The trash can also sat by the door. Before I left the office that day I stepped out of my office to make some copies, and when I returned the box and trash can had been emptied. The custodian had thought the box was trash. That was the end of the recipe book.

Anyway, this Sugar Cookie recipe is similar, and it includes the royal icing!

Holiday Ideas: Red Lips for Christmas

Do you do red lips for the holidays? I know a lot of people shy away from red shades, but I LOVE a red lip! It’s all about finding the right red for your complexion, and what you are wearing. Also, it’s good to remember that reds have undertones that affect how they look on your lips. These undertones are generally, blue, pink, or orange. I’ve found that I wear all three depending on the color of my clothing.

I’m linking my favorites below.

Also, I love Trinny London’s lip pots! I’m linking some options of reds here too!

Holiday Ideas: Holiday Clothing Purchased

The one piece of clothing that every closet should include is a black jumpsuit. There are so many versions of the black jumpsuit you’re sure to find the perfect match!

A black jumpsuit is so easy to style for any occasion! Also, it can be paired with just about any jewelry and a favorite pair of shoes you already have in your closet!

For the holidays it’s fun to add a little sparkle, or a pop of color to your look! I personally love the black and gold color combination. Of course, adding a splash of Christmas red, or festive hot pink might be more your style.

Finally, top off your look with a cute cropped fuzzy jacket, leather jacket or plaid wrap!
