3 Steps to Nourished and Healthy Hair Over Fifty

We all know that as we age, our hair changes.  However, that doesn’t mean that it can’t look fabulous over 50!  Here are 3 steps to nourished and healthy looking hair for women over fifty. (Actually, this applies to any age!)  Thankfully, these things are simple and easy to put into daily, or weekly practice!

In the beginning

In my forties I started noticing that my hair was becoming dry and brittle.  It wasn’t too surprising due to the fact that by that time I had been coloring/highlighting my hair consistently for about 10 years.  Not only did I begin to see signs of breakage of my hair I began seeing signs of gray hair.  The graying started slowly, but has definitely increased in number now that I’m in my early fifties.

What to do about it

Fortunately there are some super simple things we can do to help restore a youthful, healthy look to our sometimes dull and lifeless hair.

Hair Biology has created several lines of hair products, but the Silver and Glowing Collection is specifically formulated for women with greying or color-treated hair. ( I have linked the collection here.) This collection has quickly become my go-to hair care products!

Step 1

First, you’ll want to find a hydrating shampoo and conditioner.  Due to the combination of age and the effects of harsh chemicals in the dyes and color treatments many of us use, our hair becomes dried-out and begins to break easily.  This creates a frizzy, frayed, and tired look.

Just recently I began using Hair Biology Silver and Glowing Collection.  These products have been a game-changer in the way that my hair looks and feels!  The Silver Shampoo fights brassiness to bring back the silver tones.

Immediately when I started using the purple shampoo, I noticed that it cleansed my hair thoroughly, and removed dulling residue.  Oftentimes, I double cleanse because I tend to use a lot of dry shampoo and other hair products that build-up on my hair.

Next, I follow-up with the luxurious Silver Conditioner . The conditioner is thick and you can tell right away that it is replenishing the moisture that’s been lost at the expense of blow drying and curling or straightening my hair.

Step 2

Secondly, since the environment, intense heat, and hair styling products can leave your overly dry, try using a hydrating hair mask on a weekly basis.  This can be an easy and effective treatment because you can apply it after you have shampooed your hair.  Then you simply leave it in while you finish bathing or shaving your legs!  The result will be silky smooth hair all week.

I’ve been applying the Deep Hydration Mask once a week to ensure a silky smooth look!  It totally helps me feel better since I stress out these locks with so much heat during the week.  It totally helps me feel better since I stress out these locks with so much heat during the week.

Step 3

Finally, I have been using the Argan Oil Treatment . This oil is the BEST!  I pump a pea sized amount into the palm of my hand, warm it up by rubbing my hands together, then apply to the ends of my hair and oh so lightly to the top of my head to give a smooth, and shiny look.
