Oh, 2020 – where have you gone? Honestly. I feel like this year just started, but now we are already at the end of the year? I’m really not sure where time has gone, but there’s nothing like a new year fast approaching to get you in the mood for cleaning, organizing, and sprucing up your space. The week between Christmas and New Year’s is actually the perfect time to get it done, too, so I wanted to share this now while all of you are still on your computers reading articles. Think about it: most of us are off from work, and we’re already busy around the house recycling shipping boxes, taking down holiday decor, and prepping for that big New Year’s Eve party you’re hosting (or I guess maybe not this year?!). While you’re running around this week getting everything sorted out, here are tips for cleaning out your home before the New Year:

Get Rid Of Old Linens

How old are your linens? I’m talking bed sheets, bath towels, blankets, and more. Unfortunately, I bet they are harboring a lot of germs – and that’s something that nobody wants to think about right now. Did you know that you’re supposed to wash your bathroom towels every two days? If not, they’re covered in bacteria! After so many uses and washes, your towels are probably worn out anyway. Get rid of all those thinning, raggedy towels (you can recycle that as rags in your garage) and invest in a new set―there are tons of after Christmas sales that will be happening soon, so you can take advantage of those. When it comes to bed sheets, you probably haven’t invested in a good, new set in a while, right? Maybe they have holes in them, or yellow spots from sweat (I’m looking at all the guys on this one!). Either way, go through your linen closet, toss what is old and worn down (and gross) and purchase new items. Out with the old, in with the new!

Tackle The Attic

Ready for a real challenge? Tackle the attic like a pro! I’m betting that you probably have a lot of dust, old boxes, and even furniture in the attic. Let’s get it all out! Start with the things that you can do yourself: the small boxes, the dust, and other items that are easy to remove. Then, hire professionals to tackle the rest for you. If you have large, heavy boxes, or large furniture items in the attic, don’t risk moving them yourself. Instead, hire a professional such as Our Truck Moving. They are Garland, TX local movers and they are here to do the job right – the first time.

They are experienced, professional, and their tight-knit team works hard to provide not only a stress-free move for you, but also superior customer service. “Our Truck Moving LLC thrives on the challenge of delivering your move error free, stress free, and making sure we leave every customer with a smile on their face at the end of the day. We are committed to the highest level of customer care, personal attention is guaranteed on every move. If you need help moving large boxes or furniture, call Our Truck Moving. They will give you a free estimate and I can bet that it will be extremely competitive!

Do You Have Any Mold?

There has been a lot of focus on mold and mildew in the health industry lately. For good reason, too – mold can cause many concerning illnesses and can contribute to declining health. This is why you need to address any mold as soon as it pops up in your home. If you haven’t done so already, tackle this before the New Year so that you can get 2021 started in good health. Unfortunately, mold and mildew are especially problematic in bathrooms. Don’t know how to clean it? Use liquid household bleach or cleaners with bleach to remove mildew stains and mold. Hydrogen peroxide (in the brown bottle) also kills mold, so a more natural technique to killing mold is to spray hydrogen peroxide, let it sit, and then spray again with vinegar. This will not only kill the mold, but disinfect it, as well. Going forward (after you kill the mold), you will want to keep it at bay. Use a non-streaking cleaning product, such as a glass or glass and multi-surface cleaner (Branch Basics is great!), for shower doors and mirrors. A regular routine, including rinsing the tub after bathing, using a small squeegee on shower walls after each use, and drying faucets and handles to prevent water spots, will keep things clean.

Add In House Plants

Now that you tackled some of the clutter and grime in your home, time to add in some things that will freshen up your home, such as house plants! When you add in real plants to your home, you are creating a peaceful feeling. This not only helps set a relaxing and calming tone for your space, but real plants will also naturally purify your air, which is always a huge bonus. Clean air = healthy family!
