The Best Foundations for All Skins Types

Hey Friends! Today I wanted to review two favorite makeup foundations I use and love.

I feel like makeup routines or habits are extremely personal. No two people have the same exact regiment. However, I think there are some things when it comes to our beauty routines that we can agree on! So, I hope you will find this useful.

Ground rules for me. Before I apply foundation I always use a moisturizer to help create a smooth and even application. Also, I find that my skin just looks healthier and a bit more dewy! The second is I will use an illuminating face primer. ( You may find the ones I prefer on my makeup page.) This too adds a brightness my skin needs as it “matures.”

Bobbie Brown: Skin Long-Wear Foundation SPF15:

The foundation I use primarily is Bobbie Brown, Skin Long-Wear Foundation SPF15. I have used Bobbie Brown’s foundation for literally years now. Just within the past year or so they reformulated the one I was using and released the Skin Long-Wear product. I find it a bit more dry, but I compensate with my moisturizer and primer, so it works just fine for me.

This product is for people with normal to oily skin.
(That being said, I have drier skin and it works for me!)

Things that I love about this foundation:

  • it is 16hr wear
  • is full coverage
  • comfortable, natural, and breathable
  • it is smooth and blendable
  • conceals redness, discoloration and pores with full coverage
  • doesn’t crease or streak with wear
  • skin not tight after you apply it
  • many color choices… it’s easy to find just the right one for your face
  • I find one bottle lasts me several months

Also it doesn’t use any of the following toxins:

  • paraben
  • phthalate
  • sulfate
  • gluten
  • it is vegan
  • it is dermatologist tested and non-acnegenic.
  • On the Bobbie Brown website they have a full list of the ingredients in this product! Love that!

There are a few things I don’t love though:

  • It has a matte finish. (Not super dry looking though.)
  • Some discoloration and some pores are still visible after application.
  • It does control some oil, but not excessive oil. like in the T zone…
  • It is kind of pricey. Around $46 @SEPHORA

This is the foundation I wear daily to work, church or out to dinner. I am happy with the coverage and look of it on a regular basis. It holds all of my makeup in place all day. All pluses in my book.

L’Oreal Paris: Infallible Pro-Glo Foundation

Even though I use the Bobbie Brown foundation on a regular basis, I have also found this product to have similar characteristics but at the fraction of the cost! I still use a moisturizer and illuminating primer before I apply this foundation.

Things I love about this foundation:

  • it is 24hr wear
  • it has a hydrating glow
  • lightweight
  • creamy
  • provides medium coverage
  • for normal to dry skin
  • sells for about $11 a bottle @target

This product doesn’t really have a lot of negatives in my book! If I had to pick one negative it would be that it is a medium coverage foundation. Meaning, that sometimes I need a little more coverage when I’m tired or stressed.

L’Oreal Paris also has an extensive website. They have a Beauty Magazine with How-to tutorials on just about anything and everything you can imagine. Makeup, hair color, hair style, skin care and basic beauty tips are just a few things you could spend hours browsing through! They even have, “The L’Oreal Paris Book Club” for goodness sake!

One thing that wasn’t listed on the bio of the product is the list of ingredients. I’m kind of obsessive about knowing what I’m putting directly on my skin. I’m not using it on a regular basis, so I’m not particularly worried about this factor.

So, in a nutshell these two products are a couple of good choices when it comes to foundation. I am always open to trying other products though! If you have some good suggestions please comment below and I will check them out! Also, if you’d like me to review any other foundations for other types of skin types let me know and I’ll create a blog post for that as well! Just give me your feedback and I’m all ears!

As always friends, happy shopping!
