Since graduation, wedding and special event season is upon us, I wanted to feature some of this season’s favorite summer dresses from Ann Taylor. This past Wednesday I kicked off my new ‘Dressing Room Diaries’ segment where I’m spotlighting an in-store try-on of popular trends, or ‘best sellers’!
*NOTE* I’d love to hear some suggestions of stores or brands you’d like for me to visit and share their very best pieces! Share your comments below!
Personally, I love the styles at Ann Taylor, I was a frequent shopper while I was teaching or whenever I need a dress for a special occasion or event. They never seem to disappoint, either!
There were a lot of dresses that I didn’t try-on while I was in the store, simply because there wasn’t enough time. So, I will have linked them at the end of the post for you to browse through.
One thing I did notice with all the dresses I tried on was that they were very roomy. In fact, I think I could have sized down in all of the dresses I tried on. However, my suggestion is to stick with your normal size, and then proceed from there. It’s always better to have a little extra room, especially when you have to wear a dress for a long period of time! Also, Ann Taylor is good about offering petite and tall sizing.
Fit and Flare Square Neck Dress
Stunning dress. That’s what I thought when I saw this dress. I knew immediately I would love it because it is a fit and flare style. The beige rattan pattern is trendy and retro. The structured cotton and square neck lend itself to being layered with a linen blazer for more formal occasions. Also, it would be easy to ‘level up’ this look by replacing the belt with a designer or leather belt, and adding some matching pointy toed heels. Don’t forget a sleek clutch!
Such a chic look with just a couple of modifications!
Light Yellow Wrap Shirtdress
Next, this light yellow wrap shirtdress is such a smart look. This linen dress has functional buttons down the front and ties around the waist. Again, I feel this would be an easy look to add a blazer to complete the polished outfit. (However, it’s already getting to hot to even consider a blazer unless inside!)
This style also is available in white. (LOVE!). I think it is such a fabulous workwear look, and also very comfortable!
Black Linen Scoop Neck Dress
Next, this black linen scoop neck dress is simply so romantic with the scoop neck! It also has tie details at the sleeves that give it a feminine touch. This style is a traditional fit and flare without being cinched at the waist with a belt. The flowy skirt also lends itself to that romantic feel.
This would be the perfect LBD for anyone’s wardrobe!
Bold Yellow Striped Sundress
Next, is this bold yellow striped sundress would not have been my first choice! However the ladies in the store said it was by far one of their customers favorites. As soon as I put this cutie on I knew why everyone loved it! It is super comfortable, and the style of the dress is adorable. It zips up the back and you can wear your regular bra.
I think that I would have sized down one size if I had been purchasing this dress though. The top was just too large on me.
Bold Pink Wrap Dress
Finally, this dress was a total surprise! The minute I put it on, I loved the color and the style of the dress. Also, I immediately thought that this would be a GREAT dress to travel with. It would be very easy to steam or hang and it would be ready to go! It also comes in a black, and the fabric is soft and stretchy.
I’m loving the cap sleeve and the seam that runs down the bodice. It has two modest vents up each side of the dress. And it doesn’t hurt matters that the wrap style is a personal favorite of mine!
Matching Powder Blue Suit
Lastly, I know that this isn’t a dress, but I couldn’t resist this matching suit in powder blue! The linen pants zip up the side and aren’t too tight. (wearing my normal pants size here). I feel like these pants could be styled multiple ways without the blazer!
The blazer is also linen, and fully lined. It does run slightly oversized. I would most likely size down one size if purchasing. Again, I would wear this blazer with lots of outfits other than just the blue ankle pants!
Let’s just take a moment for this darling scalloped sleeve top. It is simply darling. The neck is elastic and closes with a hook and eye. The material is a nice weight, and isn’t see through! It also comes in a black. I am wearing my normal top size here.
Five stars for this matching suit! I can totally see why they are so popular right now.
