The Top Four Foundations for Maturing Skin

Hello friends! I’m so excited to share with you my top four foundations for maturing skin! As we grow older, no matter what stage of life we’re in, our skin’s needs change. This happens to be one of those times for me! For example, right now my skin is unbelievably dry, except in the notorious T-Zone. Just a couple of years ago I would have told you I had normal to oily skin. Not the case anymore! Like many other midlife mamas at this point in life, my skin has it’s normal color variations, dark circles under the eyes, and the pores on my forehead seem to be growing larger every day. Hormonal changes are major players in these midlife years, and can’t be ignored!

That being said, I wanted to be able to offer a few good options when it comes to our foundation coverage. These products are the “best of the best” in their category. I’ve decided the easiest way to think about them is by the coverage they provide. So, I’ve tried to find one for each of the categories most women can relate to.

# 1 The Sheer Look: Glossier Skin Perfecting Tint- in Light Neutral shade G11

I have been looking for a foundation like this one for a couple of years now! I’m not even kidding! A few years ago my favorite makeup brand discontinued my favorite base and I haven’t been able to find a replacement since! Let’s just say I’ve gone through many different brands from higher-end products to drugstore brands. I was looking for something super sheer. Where I could put it on easily with my fingers and basically neutralize any minor discoloration on my face. In a nutshell, I wanted to be able to see my skin show through it!

I wanted something I could use daily without a lot of fuss, but still, look pulled together when at home or out of the house!

Glossier Skin Perfecting Tint

Glossier’s skin tint was the PERFECT solution to all my needs! It is sheer when it goes on. It melts into your skin as you apply it with your fingers. It dries matte on your face, yet magically leaves a dewy finish. Finally, it evens out any discoloration with one application of the foundation. I would call this a lightweight option. By the end of the 8 hour day, I would probably want to apply a thin layer of loose powder to freshen my lookup, however, it doesn’t require a lot more than that.

This is definitely my first choice in foundations because I want a less “made-up” look. Again, as my skin is maturing, I don’t want my makeup to look cakey! In this case, less is more!!

Furthermore, the price hits right in the “sweet spot.” It is slightly more expensive than a drugstore option, but half the price of some of the high-end products.

Pro-Tip: Using your fingers to apply your foundation helps warm the product so that it melts into the skin for a natural finish!

#2 The Full Coverage Look: MakeUp Forever Reboot- in Natural Sand Y244

The second foundation I chose is for those midlife ladies that want a heavier or “full coverage” look on a daily basis. I too need one for times that I’m taking photographs, am out to dinner with friends or special occasions when I just want a more polished, picture-perfect look. This is a base that actually creates a flawless canvas that you can build your look on.

Makeup Forever Reboot

So Makeup Forever Reboot is the full-coverage foundation that illuminates, smoothes, firms, hydrates, and evens out your skin. For maturing skin, these are the exact qualities our skin needs! The perfect full coverage solution!

Pro-Hack: If you are wanting a more made-up look, use a flat-tipped round brush to apply your foundation. Apply a liberal amount to cover the entire face. (remember you can always go back and add another application to build it up) Finish your look by lightly dusting loose powder ONLY in oily areas of your face avoiding your under-eye area.

This product is at the higher-end price-wise. However, it isn’t the highest priced foundation on the market though! I’d say it is comparable to its competitors. I don’t mind paying a little extra when I’m getting everything I want though!

Pro-Tip: Before buying a foundation, use a tester of the product if possible. Make sure to wear it inside and outside observing how it looks in the light. Make sure you like the way it looks and feels on your skin. Do you love the color? And how does it look by the end of an eight hour day?

#3 Affordable Medium Coverage: Infallible Pro-Glow by L’Oreal- in Creamy Natural #202

Infallible Pro-Glow by L’Oreal

As far as affordability goes, this is definitely a product that I can stand behind. It has medium to full coverage, and I’ve also noticed that it stays put all day long. I do like that it has a slightly illuminating finish to it. And that it is hydrating enough for my dry skin. Meaning that my skin doesn’t look excessively dry after I apply the foundation.

I typically use my fingers to apply this product. It goes on smoothly and easily. I use it sparingly around the eye area or any other overly-dry areas to keep it from settling into the fine lines or wrinkles.

I have used this product for a year or so off and on. My only complaint is that it would sometimes settle in the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes or laugh lines. This happens to be one of my pet peeves, so I’m constantly on the look-out for something new and improved to combat that problem cosmetically.

All in all, it is a product that I would buy and use today, even with maturing skin without a second thought. It is priced right and gets the job done!

Pro-Tip: Be aware of the ingredients of the products that you are applying to your face and into your skin. Beware of parabens or other toxins commonly used in makeup.

#4 The Clean Option: BeautyCounter’s Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation- in Linen

Finally, in an effort to eliminate toxic build-up in my body, I am attempting to “clean up” the beauty products I am using! Hands down, BeautyCounter is the leading brand in beauty products in this category, as far as I’m concerned. They are full disclosure minded when it comes to the ingredients that they use in their products, as well as those no-no’s they don’t use! As a brand leader, they also lobby on behalf of the consumer for better ingredients and for toxins to be identified and banned from our cosmetics. That is a BIG WOW y’all. I could go on and on about this topic, but instead, you can click here to find out all the deets about this brand.

If you are interested in this product or any other of their beauty or skincare products, you can click here to be connected to the BeautyCounter representative that I use to buy my products. She very helpful and has never pressured me in any way to buy from her! Feel free to contact Nicole Berenguer with questions or helpful info by email at nicolerberenguer@gmail.com

BeautyCounter Skin Tint Hydrating Foundation

This foundation is a medium coverage foundation. It goes on smoothly and covers the skin nicely. At times I do use a little bit of moisturizer along with the product due to the overly dry nature of my skin. However, I have been very happy with the product. It has a dewy finish and doesn’t seem to settle in those tricky fine lines or wrinkles. Basically, it’s a winner in my book when it comes to the perfect amount of coverage for maturing skin!

Price-wise it is about the same price as other leading competitors in the industry. However, the peace of mind it brings knowing that it is non-toxic is TOTALLY worth the money.

In my opinion, these products get top reviews! I am constantly trying out various brands and exploring new items on the market for maturing skin! Rest assured I will continue to bring relevant information and the best products for women in their midlife years!
