The Statement Necklace

Hello friends!  It’s #stylestipstuesday…  (Again, I just made that up.)  Have you ever seen a bold necklace and think, “I love it.  I just don’t know what I’d wear it with?” Today I have a few ways to help you style that statement accessory!

First of all, a good statement necklace doesn’t need to be expensive!  In fact, I’ve linked several that are around $20 in my Liketoknow.it app.  Generally, I’ll pick one up that’s on the clearance rack, or at an inexpensive store.  I have no expectation that it will last forever… But, just want something that will add some interest to my outfit of the day!  Simply find one you really like, and generally, you will already have an outfit it will go with.

Next, if it truly is a bold piece, stick to a simple outfit.  Especially around your face, because that is where the necklace is! If you truly want the necklace to stand out, you don’t want it to compete for attention with your outfit!  I like to wear a simple tee and cardigan, then layer the necklace over that. Or, a top that has a round neck, v-neck or sweetheart neckline also works really well.

Also, you need to consider your color palette.  It’s easiest to simply match the primary color of the necklace to the primary color in your clothing.  Making more of a monochromatic look. This is always a sleek, polished, pulled-together outfit of the day.  You can definitely spice up a boring black or navy suit by adding a bold shade of that color in your statement necklace!  Bam! Ready for work! This is a bold and beautiful look!

On the other hand, there is the option of using the necklace as a contrasting color.  This is a fun look too. You can use the necklace as a total opposite color, or maybe it has a stone in it that is contrasting with the outfit itself.  This is a fun and flirty look! So, don’t be afraid to be creative here! In the fashion world today, you are allowed to be as unique as you feel comfortable with.  So, jump in with both feet, or just dip a toe in!

Finally, there is the bold and the “over the top” look you can create with the statement necklace!  Think all things ruffles, lace, color… dramatic! There is no shame in taking your look to this place!  In fact, I totally love it! Instead of keeping everything in check, you’ll want to add a ruffle to your top.  Or, maybe wear the neck of your button-down top open and the necklace next to your skin. Your outfit could include stripes or patterns that are similar or different than your statement piece!  The goal would be to make it visually appealing. Don’t be afraid to play with your look a little bit! This is an easy place to take a risk.

So friends… I hope this has given you a little bit of inspiration for your fall wardrobe.  During these dull and drab winter days, try adding a statement piece to brighten up your OOTD.
