5 Simple Tips to Get Your Home Ready for Fall

Guest Post by Alex Berger

Boy, does it feel like this hot weather streak is never going to end! But, I know that fall is on its way and will be here soon whether you like it or not. Personally, I love fall, but I know that some people are so sad that summer is ending. We had a few cooler streaks mixed in with the hot, hot, hot days, and anytime there is even a small hint in a change of season, it makes me want to start switching everything over for that next season. If you are like me and are already preparing for fall, you are in luck, because I am sharing with you my best tips on how to get ready for the next season today. Here they are:

Cozy Bedding

Cozy bedding is something that I absolutely love during the cooler months of the year. Hopping into a warm and cozy bed at the end of a long day is just something that is hands down, one of the best feelings in the world. Over the course of the next few weeks, it is the perfect time to trade out your cotton sheets for those flannel or woven linen ones. Other great ways to add cozy bedding is by bringing out your winter duvet, adding an extra blanket or two, and piling the bed high with pillows galore. Of course, I always recommend washing your sheets, blankets, and other linens first and when it comes to your winter duvet, a dry cleaning would not hurt. Who knows how much dust it has collected over the past few months of being tucked away in a drawer, closet, or attic.

Switch Out Your Closet

One of the most fun aspects of fall for me is my closet. I absolutely love layering clothes. While I do think that summer clothes are fun and colorful, layering is just so comfortable and cute, in my opinion, and I fully take advantage of the opportunity to layer as much as possible, when the weather allows for it. Once again, just make sure to wash everything prior to wearing it.

Tend To The Fireplace + HVAC System

There are two house projects that you need to do before cool weather hits: tend to your fireplace and HVAC system. Having your fireplace inspected is extremely important because it lowers your risk of fire. The Chimney Safety Institute of America says, “If your appliance or your venting system has not changed and you plan to use your system as you have in the past, then a Level 1 inspection is a minimum requirement. A Level 1 inspection is recommended for a chimney under continued service, under the same conditions, and with the continued use of the same appliance.

In a Level 1 inspection, your chimney service technician should examine the readily accessible** portions of the chimney exterior, interior and accessible* portions of the appliance and the chimney connection. Your technician will be looking for the basic soundness of the chimney structure and flue as well as the basic appliance installation and connections. The technician will also verify the chimney is free of obstruction and combustible deposits.”

In addition to having your fireplace inspected, you need to have your HVAC system inspected and serviced. This will hopefully prevent any outages during the potential cold days that are ahead of us.

Shop For Any Needed Fall Items

Thankfully, even with the current hot temps, home decor stores are already gearing up for fall and winter. I mean, I even saw a Christmas tree in a store the other day, so they are definitely more than prepared for any and all of your fall (and winter) shopping needs. Hopefully you have some fall items stored away in your home so that you do not have to spend a ton of money on decor, but I always say that a plush blanket or a new candle is a great way to welcome in the new season because it just makes your home feel so cozy and warm (in a good way, not in the Texas heat type of way). If you are missing anything, head over to your favorite home decor store to pick everything up so that you can get in the spirit!

Declutter

Last but not least, now is the perfect time to declutter your home and remove any junk. With the holidays coming up (especially with our kids), our house has the potential to become very chaotic very quickly. Junk piles up everywhere and it seems like with the influx of gifts, things get out of control. That’s why I like to get rid of junk before the holidays roll around – so that I hopefully do not have to deal with a cluttered home. Luckily, Junk Queen TX can help with this. If you have a lot of junk in your home, garage, attic, or even shed, you can always rent one of their dumpsters, which can make your life a lot easier than calling your trash company over and over to schedule junk pick-ups. A 14 x 7 x 14 ft dumpster rental through Junk Queen TX is only $350 for up to 5 days, so you have the ability to take your time going through your home and finding the things that you should get rid of. The Junk Queen TX junk removal crew offers affordable, custom junk removal services all throughout Collin County, which includes Plano, Allen, McKinney, and more. They are committed to going above and beyond to cater to their clients and always aim to provide top-notch service. If you have old carpet, furniture, appliances, lumber, household junk, scrap metal, hot tubs, roofing, sheds, electronics, and more, that you need to get rid of, Junk Queen TX could be a great way to do so with ease.

There you go – my best tips on getting ready for the next season! Do you have any tried and true ways that you prepare for the season ahead of us? If so, I would love to hear about them!
